Natural Protected Spaces

Natural Park Sierra Maria-Velez. It is framed in the centre of this eastern region, covering an area of 22,562 hectares, nearly a quarter of the region, which are distributed unequally among the four towns that cover. There is also a Special Protection Area (SPA), and was declared a Place of Community Interest (SCI).

 

In the town of Chirivel has been declared as a Natural Monument a "sabina albar" shrub (Juniperus thurifera) whose age was estimated between 600-1.000 years.

Sierra del Oso: Just north of town of Velez Blanco is the "Sierra del Oso ", with an area of 12,000 hectares, declared Place of Community Interest (SCI).
