Valle del Guadalhorce

Desfiladero de los Gaitanes

Singular enclave of geomorphological special interest, gorge carved between the mountains of El Chorro by the Guadalhorce River, has a length of three kilometers and presents a few drops of up to 700 metres with less than 10 meters widths in closer areas .

Location:
Nestled in the towns of Álora, Ardales and Bobadilla.

Access:
From the village of El Chorro.

Elements of interest:
In addition to the endemic species and other interesting plant communities, is an important place for rocky birds. The highest spots of Almorchon are the innkeepers and nests of Griffon and Egyptian vultures, while the cliffs of the Gaitanes are the habitat of the Golden eagle. The wells in vertical cliffs are the preferred areas for falcons, kestrels and nocturnal raptors like Eagle owls, but the intermediate and lower floors along the rivers are mainly occupied by pigeons, swifts and jackdaws.
Over the trails that run through the gorge you can see the different species that come to our step, in the absence of specified infrastructure for this purpose.
