Natural Protected Sites |
• The presence of the Breña y Marismas del Barbate Natural Park helps maintain the natural characteristics of much of the coastal strip. This natural area has one of the most remarkable landscapes on the Atlantic coast of Cadiz, with dramatic cliffs of over 100 m high, as the ones at Torre del Tajo, and at Caños de Meca, somewhat lower in height. In some respects these cliffs arise springs drinking water discharging into small creeks, giving it a rich landscape. It has been declared as a Special Protection Area (SPA) and Place of Community Interest (SCI). |

• Another protected area within the region is the Tombolo de Trafalgar Natural Monument, sandstone small island located between the inlets of Conil and Barbate and joined the coast by a double cross line of sand that give rise to an arrow. At its southern part, around the lighthouse, there are various archaeological sites. Compared to its shores took place in 1805 the famous battle of Trafalgar. It was declared a Site of Community Interest (SCI). |
