| Natural Protected Sites |
A significant part of the sites in this district has some figure of autonomous or international protection:
Biosphere Reserve Marismas del Odiel. It is located to the south of the county of Huelva, in the municipalities of Huelva, Punta Umbria, Aljaraque and Gibraleón. It is integrated in a complex system of estuaries originated by the mouth of the rivers Tinto and Odiel and it has a surface of 7.185 hectares. This space has been also declared Ramsar site, Natural Site, Zone of Special Protection for birds (ZEPA) and Site of Community Interest (SIC), stressing the importance for birds, especially the aquatic ones. |

Lagunas del Portil Natural Reserve: one of the more representative and best conserved wetlands of the coast of Huelva. It is located in the Municipality of Punta Umbria, next to the town of Portil, with a surface of 15 hectares. It has been declared Site of Community Interest (SIC).
Marismas de Isla Cristina Natural Site: It is situated in Isla Cristina and Ayamonte municipalities. With a surface of 2.145 hectares, this site is formed by a complex of marshes associated to the mouths of the rivers Guadiana and Carreras that constitute an important area for breeding birds of wetlands, atnd also for migrant and wintering species. It has been declared Zone of Special Protection for birds (ZEPA) and Site of Community Interest (SIC).
Marismas del río Piedras y Flecha del Rompido Natural Site: located in the Municipal territories of Cartaya and Lepe. With a surface of 2.530 hectares, It is an important area of marshes and coastal sands for the breeding, wintering and migration of many shorebirds and other species of humid areas. This site is also important for the meadows of marine Spartina. It has been declared ZEPA and LIC. |

Enebrales de Punta Umbria Natural Site: Situated in the Municipal area of Punta Umbria (Huelva). It has a surface of 162 hectares. It can be described as a dune ecosystem of marine-continental transition in which the main characteristic is the mixed forest of junipers (Juniperus oxycedrus subsp. macrocarpa) and sabinas (J. phoenicea), scarce formation in the Andalusian coast. Also, it has been declared LIC.
Norieta Outskirts Park :
with an area of approximately 94 ha, is part of the mount called Campo Común de Abajo, belonging to the Punta Umbría County Council (Huelva); It is situated in the protected area of the lagunas del Portil Natural Reserve and next to the Marismas del Odiel Natural Reserve, recreation areas.
As well as the previous spaces, the following ones are included in the Nature 2000 net as Sites of Community Interest: Andévalo Occidental: important area of dispersion of imperial Iberian eagle(Aquila adalberti) and Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) , meadows; Isla de San Bruno: the conservation objectives regard to marshes and saline grasslands and botanical threatened species; Rio Guadiana and Ribera del Chanza: with important fish species ; Estuario del río Piedras : one of the scarce estuaries in Andalusia.
