Lagunas de Campillos It consists of eight brackish lagoons, five of which are included in the Nature Reserve (Dulce, Cerere, Salada, Camuñas and Capacete). It belongs to a set of greater steppe lagoons between Benamejí (Cordova) and Vega Alta of Antequera (Malaga), constituting a peripheral area of the Laguna de Fuente de Piedra Nature Reserve.
 

Location
Laguna Dulce among the Campillos Laggons complex (Campillos), pk 139 of the A-384 road in the stretch Campillos-Antequera.

Access
SThe access cn be done by a path that leaves the left side of the road A-384, Pk 139 Antequera direction.

Laguna Salada, which lacks observatory, stands at kilometre 11 of the MA-452 road and it is accessed by a track that surrounds it by its south-east side. The vegetation of the shore is not too exuberant therefore not be difficult to observe the area.

Continuing along the same road, in P.K. 13, after passing the train tracks we found a way to the right that leads to the Laguna de Capacete, whose riverbank vegetation makes difficult the view of the sheet of water.

 

Elements of interest
The timing of the lagoons makes the observations of birds are more advisable during the wintering period, which, moreover, produced the largest concentrations of birds.

The importance of this wetland lies in the presence of endangered species with populations in Andalusia and the rest of Spain, ranked as the Crested coot Critically Endangered or White-headed duck in Danger, as well as Greater flamingos several species of ducks, Grebes, Common coot and many shorebirds. Apart from breeding species, this is an important enclave as wintering area for both these same species as for other aquatic species.

Infraestructures:
Laguna Dulce Observatory (Campillos)

Elements of interest:

•  The observatory is practically at the roadside and is easily accessible with any type of vehicle.

• single point of observation Laguna Dulce as it lacks of roads that surrounds it.

• From the observatory we can obtain a good view across the lake and the birds are quite close to the observer.

• You can contemplate Common flamingo, Common coot(Fulica atra) and Crested coot, ducks, shorebirds, kingfishers, etc..

Observations:
•  The observatory is closed at night, so try to find out in advance of the opening and closing hours.

• The best hours of observation are the first and last of the day when the birds are active.

• Depending on the hydrological year, the lagoon can be dried in summer. If the visit is going to take place at this time of the year, get informed in advance on the city council of the status of the lagoon.
