The District of Guadalteba is located to the North of the county of Málaga and it has a surface of 722,58 Km 2. It has a continental climate. At North it borders on the Sevilla´s Countryside, at South on the Valley of Guadalhorce, at West on Serranía de Ronda and Sierra de Cádiz and at east on Vega de Antequera. The district is composed by the following municipalities:
Almargen, Árdales, Campillos, Cañete la Real, Carratraca, Cuevas del Becerro, Sierra de Yeguas and Teba.
The District is located in the furrow of the betic mountains, conforming a transition area among the Andalusian Mountain ranges to the south of the district and the Countryside of the Depression from Guadalquivir to the north, what confer to this unit a great landscape variability.
The rivers Guadalteba and Turón are the most important in the district, both flowing to Guadalhorce, they are dammed in its final tracts forming the reservoirs of Guadalteba and the Guadalhorce district, respectively. |

Ecological values . The diversity of ecosystems represented in this district determines the presence of very diverse groups of birds.
Birdlife diversity. Of the 524 birds that the publication Birds in Europe describes, approximately 33%, or some 172 birds, are observed more or less regularly in the region of Guadalteba.
Threatened species. There are 93 species present that possess some threaten grade, at world level, as European.
Natural Protected Spaces . The Natural Place Desfiladero de los Gaitanes and the Natural reserve Lagunas de Campillo have been declared Zones of Special Protection for birds (ZEPA).
The presence of Important Bird Areas (IBA´s).
Sierras de Antequera , El Chorro, Lagunas de Fuente de Piedra, Campillos y el Gosque, Serranía de Ronda, Sierras Bermeja and Crestellina.
