Condado de Huelva

Description

  The geographical area of the Condado de Huelva district is located in the southeast of the county of Huelva, bordering to the south with the Atlantic Ocean, to the east with the county of Seville and to the west with the municipalities of Andévalo and of the Huelva coast. This territory includes 19 municipalities, Almonte, Beas, Bollullos Par del Condado, Bonares, Chucena, Escacena del Campo, Hinojos, La Palma del Condado, Lucena del Puerto, Manzanilla, Moguer, Niebla, Palos de la Frontera, Paterna del Campo, Rociana del Condado, San Juan del Puerto, Trigueros, Villalba del Alcor and Villarrasa that on the whole contain a surface of around 2.756 km 2, approximately 28% of the total of the county.

 

At the present time 3 environmental units can be recognized in the district. The forest unit where autochthonous and foreign wood formations are included, the big heath extensions without trees or (hunting reserves) that we find in this territory and the wetlands which include the marshlands, the lagoon complexes and the coast, and the agricultural areas.

Ornithological importance
of Condado de Huelva district

Strategic position. Its vicinity to the Strait of Gibraltar assists the migratory path from the interior and the coasts between the centre and west of Europe and Africa to converge here.

Ecological value. The variety of ecosystems that are represented in the district facilitates the presence of very diverse groups of birds.

Avifauna diversity. 212 of 524 described in Birds in Europe (Birdlife 2004) can be observed here.

Threatened species: Of the 212 birds that can be observed here 10 of them are threatened at world level.

The presence of Important Areas for Birds (IBA). Marismas del Guadalquivir, Marismas del Río Tinto and Odiel and coastal lagoons of Huelva..
