Los Alcornocales

Playa de Los Lances

Catalogued as Natural Spot. The deposit of fine sand is continuing all along the beach, won great width at the beginning and decline as we approach the Punta de la Pena, and then widened again. In this beach empty Vega, Jara and Valle rivers, in addition to the Salado Creek, forming extensive coastal lagoons. The tidal conditions allow for the coexistence of both freshwater and saltwater plant species which promotes the availability of food for large numbers of bird species.

Location: It is located between Tarifa and Ensenada de Valdevaqueros.

Access: The access is possible from Tarifa village or from different paths since leaving the N-340 in the stretch between the city and Valdevaqueros.

Elements of interest:
It is a very good place to observe shorebirds as Cory's Shearwater, Audouin´s gull, oystercatcher (Haemantopus ostralegus), Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria), sandwich tern, spoonbill, purple heron, gannet, kentish plover, sanderling (Calidris alba) and whiskered tern (Chlidonias hybridus).

Infraestructures:
There is a gateway that begins in the southern part of the natural area, cross the river Vega and continue until near the lagoon that is formed between the mouth of this river and the Jara river, where a bird observatory is planned to be built. While the beach can be a place for bird watching all year, is particularly interesting during migratory periods.
