Natural Protected Spaces |
The climatological, geologic and hydrographical characteristics, make of this location a remarkable place with a landscape, fauna and flora of great value as can be concluded by the high number of Natural Protected Spaces, total or partially, included in the district:
National Park of Doñana. 55.327 ha are occupied by this park, one of the natural spaces of highest ecological value in Europe. Its limits includes eleven municipalities of Cádiz, Huelva and Seville, of which five municipalities are included in the district of the County of Huelva. The characteristics that make this space unique are countless, highlighting the variety of ecosystems and the grade of conservation, the variety of species that frequent it and the importance in the annual processes of migrations or wintering. It was declared Biosphere Reserve and Patrimony of the Humanity (UNESCO). Also declared Zone of Special Protection for Birds (ZEPA), and included as Ramsar site. Declared as Site of Community Interest (SIC). Recently it has been granted with the The European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas (CETS) on behalves of the European Federation of National and Natural Parks (EUROPARC). |

Natural Park of Doñana. It can be considered as a continuity of the National Park, residing the difference in an administrative more than real division. This space occupies 53.835 ha, distributed among the counties of Cádiz, Huelva and Seville. The qualities that have made it be worthy of a protection figure are basically the same ones than the National Park. Declared as Place of Community Interest, recently this site has been granted with the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Protected Areas (CETS) on behalves of the European Federation of National and Natural Parks (EUROPARC).
Natural Park Brazo del Este. Located in the left margin of Guadalquivir, this part of this river became in disuse with the alterations suffered in this area of the marshland. The predominant fauna is composed by an abundant number of birds, fundamentally waterfall. In this space they find a suitable place for breeding, as well as enough food sources in near rice fields of Los Palacios and Villafranca, Puebla del Río or Isla Mayor. It has been declared Special Protection Area for the avifauna and also Ramsar site. |

Protected landscape of Corredor verde del Guadiamar. The Guadiamar starts through forests of oaks and cork oaks to cross the Seville agricultural countryside later on and finally end at the Guadalquivir marshlands. When granted the protection figure of Protected Landscape to the Guadiamar river and the riversides that runs next to the river its only grounds were not only the regeneration of the river but also connect the animal communities from the mountain coastal ones which had been isolated due to the agricultural transformation of this location. Declared as Place of Community Interest (SAC).
Concerted Natural Reserve Cañada de los Pájaros. Natural reserve of private ownership, located on a plain semi-aquatic that gives place to a landscape constituted by a succession of ecosystems among those to highlight endorreic lagoons and pine forest. It is also possible to participate in many activities of environmental education purposes; also in this reserve is carried out breeding of species in captivity for later reintroduction. Included in Doñana North and West SAC.
Concerted Natural Reserve of the Dehesa de Abajo . Declared jointly by the City council of La Puebla del Río and Consejería de Medioambiente protected area. Located in the south area of Aljarafe in next to Guadalquivir marshland. Olive tree forests, where is established an important colony of European white stork ( Ciconia ciconia ); also heath, pine forest and pre marshland vegetation of special interest. included in Doñana North and West SAC.
