The geographical area of the Aljarafe-Doñana district is located to the Southwest of the county of Seville, bordering to the north with the denominated district of the Corredor de la Plata, to the west with the county of Huelva and to the south and the east with the river Guadalquivir.
This territory includes 16 municipalities; Albaida del Aljarafe, Aznalcázar, Benacazón, Bollullos de la Mitación, Carrión de los Céspedes, Castilleja del Campo, Huévar del Aljarafe, Olivares, Pilas, La Puebla del Río, Salteras, Umbrete, Isla Mayor, Villamanrique de la Condesa y Sanlúcar la Mayor.
The district occupies a surface of around 1.500 square kilometres and it has a population 91.572 inhabitants. |

The climate in the district of Aljarafe-Doñana is denominated Mediterranean subhumid with Atlantic influence, characterized by an important variability hiperannual and interannual of the precipitations.
The number of hours of sun ligh is high, with an annual means in the order of the 3.000 hours. The predominant winds are those of the Southwest and west. |

Strategic position: The district of Aljarafe-Doñana is important for the wintering of a big amount of birds that leaves their breeding areas in central and northern Europe.
Ecological values: The variety, extension and grade of conservation of the present ecosystems in the district.
Fauna diversity: Of the 524 birds described on the publication Birds in Europe (Birdlife 2004) approximately 48%, some 250 birds are observed in the district.
Threatened species: Of the 226 European species that have a state of non favourable conservation, 135, 60% can be observed in the district.
Natural Protected Sites:
Important Bird Areas (IBA): The district includes one IBA of great extension that embrace the whole south and part of the northern areas. |
